Blue Roses/ Golden Light

It all started so simply... A family walk in the golden afternoon- intentionsof only taking landscape photos, then my dad asking if he could take a photo of me, leading to another.. and another.. Until we had a whole sequence in different sun-hazed locations.
That morning when I got up, my first though was "Ooh, Sunlight! I must make the most of it while it's here" It has become so rare at the moment, and I am willing Spring to appear and push away all these miserable cold, dark days. So I dressed according to the weather- in gold and blue.
I got this fabulous vintage dress from Beyond Retro in London about a year ago. I love the contrasting colours and the shape, it fits perfectly!
In the afternoon, I was given about 3 minutes notice that we were going on a walk. So I grabbed the first thing I could find, which happened to be a jacket that matched very nicely! (Formerly from my mum's 'drama dressing up box') We have been trying to work out what time period the jacket is- me and my mum think it might be thirties. But if anyone does haveany other ideas, do let me know! (Sixties copy?)  It has that lovely old suede feel, complete with worn buttons and a broken clasp. The addition of wellies is a testament to quite how impromtu the shoot really was! Well, they're kind of in the same colour range.
I could not imagine more perfect light. It is at points like these that I am a little wistful that I don't have someone else to take photos of. But I found a location really nearby to this spot that I am hoping to be behind the camera., with a friend modelling to do another shoot.
Underneath the jacket I have on a thrifted cream cardigan and belt.

I found out a few hours ago about the death of Alexander McQueen. I am so saddened, and I really wish his family peace and a lack of intrusion in this time of grief. I thought his designs were truly amazing.. One of my favourite collections of his was the a/w 08/09- all those beautiful gowns and the elaborate set. His ideas were always innovative and I'm sure the fashion world, among many others will miss him greatly.

Edit: I will be away until monday now, I'll enjoy catching up when I get back!

It looks like such a beautiful day.......love all the greens and blues in the photos. In NY, we just got a ton of snow so the aftermath is a bunch of gooey grey slush!

Just wanted to (finally) comment. I've been following your blog for awhile now and I'm always blown away by your fantastic style. I wish I looked as good as you, and also as fabulously dressed, when I was your age.

I am totally in love with the outfit. I need to scour my own charity shops more since clearly there are more gems there than malls.

I always love your blog but have to admit that these photos are some of my favourites. I particularly like the one of you sitting by the woodpile - I love how the dappled light highlights your face and skirt (/bottom half of the dress!). Such lovely colours and I'm very jealous of your beautiful dress too!

Hello again. I am loving that dress! And the sunlight is perfect! So jealous. I live in the city, and have no backyard and the park by my house is always super crowded! You are so lucky to be able to go out and absorb all the sunlight in your pictures!

So jealous.

What a lovely post, lovely series of photos (and yes, suddenly seeing sunshine and the earliest hint of spring.. the colours make it look warmer), and then you say you'd just found out. It seems so in character that your first thought is for his family, and to want to respect and not intrude on their privacy. Your manners and sense of consideration are exemplary, your parents have clearly raised you well.

Hope you're having a lovely weekend wherever you are. Oh! I forgot why I came here to comment: I have almost the identical jacket, from MY mom. I love it - have seen a photo of her in it, I wish I had it, she looked so beautiful - but it's ripping everywhere and I don't know where to go to repair it. It's the softest, buttery suede - hers is more golden perhaps, and shorter, like a 'car coat'. That's what she called it, a car coat. I think perhaps she got it new in the late 50s or early 60s.

Your dress is one of my favourite colour combinations. xx

as always lovely photos

i really enjoy that dress and your olive colored rainboots

my favorites are the colored one by the telephone booth, and the 3rd pic from top...that light really is golden, sublime. it seems like late afternoon. it's such a pretty outfit, styled effortlessly. you are going places, roz!

i'm still sad about mcqueen, too. it's notable how we can grieve someone we've never met; it's because he touched something within us- that intangible creative spirit we all possess. mcqueen tapped into that side of himself, took it and ran with it- no reservations. he will be missed more than he could ever have known.

hugs!
